NINANG

Noun. (Philippines) A godmother.

A portrait series exploring the unique relationship between godmother & godchildren in Filipino culture.

We celebrate the influence such relationships have within our collective heritage and through generations - a visual tribute to the duality and intersectionality of homeland & diaspora, and immigrant & American born. Each talent and set represent various Filipino elements and ages - a traditional handwoven banig, barong, and indigenous inspired sash as an ode to our roots; hand painted blue canvases to symbolize our ancestral waters; a yellow seamless to honor our history of people power; and a clear white cyc to represent the younger generation evolving these relationships after us.

Produced and created by an all Filipino crew.
Featuring real people, real relationships.

Inspired by my late ninang, Lora Gene.
For all of us.
